Business context
Market opportunity
The clearest opportunity was not another reporting tool — it was a connected ESG workspace that could educate, operationalize, and prove progress.
Complexity map
Data sources
ERP, utility bills, supplier forms, spreadsheets
Frameworks
CSRD, GRI, SASB, SEC rules, internal policy
Workflow
Collect, normalize, validate, assign, approve
Visibility
Executive rollups, analyst detail, audit evidence
Action
Prioritized interventions, reporting confidence, next steps

Insight 01
Fragmented data sources create reporting inefficiencies.
The product had to reduce collection friction while making provenance and audit readiness visible from the beginning.
Insight 02
Compliance requirements are difficult to navigate.
Users needed guidance embedded in the workflow, not a separate knowledge base they had to interpret manually.
Insight 03
Executives and analysts require different depths of the same truth.
Insight 04
Sustainability reporting lacks standardization.
Reusable reporting patterns, data visualization standards, and modular dashboards became core to scalability.

Research translated ambiguous ESG work into product direction.
Discovery system
Interviews, stakeholder mapping, competitive teardown, workflow analysis, personas, affinity mapping, and artifact reviews were treated as one connected discovery system — not separate deliverables.

Workflow pain points
3
Strategy pillars
Analysts
Need depth, traceability, and reliable source evidence.
Executives
Need confidence, risk visibility, and board-ready narratives.
Data owners
Need clearer requests, less repetition, and accountability.
Problem
Teams could collect ESG data, but could not confidently understand what mattered, what was missing, or how to act next.
Vision
Create a connected ESG operating layer that helps companies learn, coordinate, report, and improve from one source of truth.
Principles
Educate before asking, show confidence with evidence, separate executive visibility from analyst depth, and make every workflow traceable.
Metrics
Time-to-report, data completeness, evidence coverage, compliance gap closure, executive confidence, and lead conversion for the website.

Website
Educate, build trust, clarify ESG concepts, and convert enterprise leads.
Onboarding
Convert company context into reporting scope, frameworks, and team roles.
Dashboard
Monitor progress, identify gaps, assign workflows, and track ESG performance.
Reporting
Generate evidence-backed disclosures and board-ready narratives.
Navigation framework: Overview → Data → Compliance → Reporting → Actions
The IA separated orientation, execution, and evidence — giving leaders a high-level read while giving operators a reliable place to resolve the work.

Educate potential customers with plain-language ESG explainers and category framing.
Build credibility through methodology, regulatory fluency, and proof of operational depth.
Generate leads by making the platform’s value clear before asking for a demo.
07
Dashboard strategy
Lead with readiness, confidence, gaps, and next actions before exposing raw ESG data.
Reporting workflows
Break reporting into assignable steps: collect, validate, review, approve, and export.
Data visualization
Use charts to support decisions: progress, variance, confidence, risk, and trend — never decoration.
Iterations moved the interface away from a generic analytics dashboard and toward an operational workspace: compliance modules, evidence collection, remediation queues, ESG performance monitoring, and executive summaries were designed as connected states of the same workflow.

Product outcome
A clearer product architecture for ESG data, compliance tracking, performance monitoring, and reporting workflows.
Business outcome
A stronger story for enterprise buyers: credible ESG expertise, tangible workflow value, and a product vision that could scale.
Design learning
Complex enterprise products become usable when research is translated into structure, language, and progressive disclosure — not simply better screens.
